In 6th Grade art we work with several mediums working on building skills with these mediums. We use, colored pencils, water colors, tempera cake paints, and collage just to list a few. Students are encouraged to work each class period and will be given several class periods to complete a project. Deadlines are set by the teacher and the teacher has the rights to change the deadline/due date of the project based on the classes needs. Students who do not meet the due date for whatever reason are encouraged to come during advisory time, or to set up a time before school to work on the artwork, or to work during homework club time as well. Homework club is Tuesday and Thursday nights, there a small snack provided to students who stay.
6th Graders will also create at least one clay piece during the year. We have to work with the high school art department to get the clay fired, so one piece per students is the norm.
Work is not sent home for completion often as students do not always have the supplies that are needed and there isn't always enough for students to leave with them for long periods of time. Work sent home for complete is on a case by case bases and project bases as well. If work is sent home and is not returned, then students will get an IE (Insufficient Evidence) for that project until it is returned completed.
